Instagram updates June 2023

updates Jul 05, 2023

As we head into July lets take a look back at some of the new features that Instagram have rolled out in June.

Don’t forget you can let me know what you have spotted and what you think about the new updates by tagging me in your insta stories @estellekeeberofficial

Instagram new group profile feature

According to Meta, “We are testing the ability to join a Group Profile and share Stories, Feed posts, or Reels with group members, so people can connect with others over their interests in a dedicated space.”

Similar to Facebook Groups, Instagram is testing its own version that enables multiple users to collaborate and share content on a single page. This feature allows individuals or communities on Instagram to come together and contribute to a shared space, fostering collaboration and collective content creation.

The feature is being gradually rolled out. We may assume it will be available to users worldwide soon. We talked about this feature in last months blog, however at this point Instagram were calling this Channels!

Multiple links in bio update

Its been great to see how many of you have already got access to this feature…its one so many of us have been hoping for!

Instagram is rolling out a new update that can easily replace Linktree and other ‘link in bio’ paid software providers.

To use the feature, tap “Edit profile,” then “Links,” then “Add external link.” You can drag and drop the links in the order you want them to appear.

Download Reels videos directly from app

On 20 June, Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced on his broadcast channel that users based in the US will be able to download Reels straight from the app onto their camera roll. Only the Reels from public accounts will be available for download. Owners of the public accounts will be able to turn off the ability, preventing anyone from downloading their Reels.

Users will be able to download Reels by tapping on the share icon and selecting the ‘Download’ option. There is no clarity on whether the downloaded Reels will carry a watermark or logo of YouTube, similar to the downloaded videos on its rival platform TikTok. But according to TechCrunch, Mosseri posted a picture during the broadcast showing the Instagram logo with an account name on a downloaded video.

Instagram have also now given you the option of recording your own content at the end of someone else's reel...its called sequence and you can see this in the image below.

GIFs in Comments on Instagram.

Gifs are coming to Instagram and will now be available in the Comments section for Stories and Reels. Users will be able to search for a gif and post it in a comment for a better and more fun expression in the conversations.

The functionality is integrated with GIPHY – a service where people can create and publish their gifs.

To post a gif, just click on the comment box, and look for the GIF icon. Tap on it, and a popup with gifs library will appear.

Share a song in Instagram Notes

Instagram is testing a new feature in Notes where people can share a song like a Note.

It is an interesting way of self-expression and a conversation opener that can boost conversations to move to DMs.

It works similarly to adding a song in Reels, where a user can crop a snippet from the song that will appear as the note. On clicking, the friends will be able to listen to part of the song.

Pick the one you like the most and post it. Find out more about the notes feature HERE

Instagram Reels Updates

One of the most controversial things Instagram has announced in recent weeks is that they are taking away Reels Bonus for creators. This announcement was met with a lot of backlash, as many creators used the Reels Bonus initiative as an incentive to post frequently.
